Welcome to the Independent Midwives Insurance portal.
As an eligible midwife, you can enter your details along with your ZEST and NMC PIN to obtain a quotation for your Medical Malpractice cover.
Upon contracting with a mother please follow the below process.
1. Register the mother’s details & expected due date with ZEST
2. If you have not already, purchase your annual medical malpractice Policy.
3. Pay your deposit premium including insurance premium tax (IPT) and fees for one full birth within 60 days
4. Declare to MGAM, when the mother gives birth and/or maternity care ceases whichever occurs first, regardless of clinical outcome, within 30 days of the first occurring event
i. To make a declaration log into your ‘Account’, where you will find a list of your live policies. Once you have found your Policy click on the ‘Make a Change’ button in the list display and follow the onscreen instructions.
5. For all subsequent maternity care contracts entered into complete the following steps:
i. Register with Zest (as above – step 1)
ii. Declare to MGAM within 30 days of the birth or cessation of care (as above – step 4)
iii. Pay any additional premium, IPT and Fees within 14 days
6. Upon the conclusion of maternity care, (whatever the clinical outcome) you will also need to let ZEST know the date of birth or date maternity care ceased within 24 hours.

Please note, if you are a Company looking to arrange cover for your midwives then each such midwife will need their own policy and will need to apply separately for cover.

Once you complete the on-line application and elect to buy the insurance, the system will automatically issue your policy documents and provide you with an invoice for settlement.
You must pay for one full maternity care agreement upfront as a minimum and deposit premium. If the first maternity care agreement does not continue beyond the second trimester then a proportion of this initial premium will be retained by insurers however the balance will be used to contribute towards the cost of the next maternity care agreement as declared.
You must as soon as is reasonably practicable and within thirty (30) days declare any maternity care agreement that has concluded regardless of clinical outcome. Failure to declare may result in a loss of coverage under the policy.
If you need to declare a birth or maternity care which has now ceased, make a change or cancel your policy, please login into your account as described above to access the self service portal.
